Instead of focusing on "losing weight" it is critical that you shift your mindset and focus to *eliminating excess body fat and preserving healthy muscles*. Hang with me here and you'll understand why this is a game changer!

I recently released a video post where I shared this key mindset shift and why it is important to refocus yourself on targeting the loss of body fat, instead of the common goal of just "losing weight".

In my Fit4Life community, I am leading the charge against this limited mindset because so many people get caught in a trap of just looking at their TOTAL BODY WEIGHT and tying their feelings of success and validation for their effort on this number.

Maybe you have been there yourself?? When the number on the scale goes down quickly you are happy... if it slows down, stays neutral or goes up you start to panic and question whether every effort your making is worth it. It's easy to feel hopeless and give up in this situation, because your focus is in the wrong place.

You may even see changes in your body or how your clothes fit, but that scale doesn't seem to drop as fast as you would like. Most scales doesn't distinguish how much of you is muscle, water, organ tissue, bone, food you recently ate.

Unless you have a special (and accurate) type of scale it won't tell you how much of your body is fat tissue versus everything else. So when we get fixed on "LOSING WEIGHT" we could be taking it from the WRONG PLACE... we need to focus ourselves on ELIMINATING BODY FAT and preserving everything else!

What most people won't tell you is that a majority of quick weight loss WINS without focusing on preserving your lean body ACTUALLY come from elimination of WATER and burning up VITAL MUSCLE TISSUE from within your body.

HERE IS THE SCARIEST PART!!! Losing muscle tissue means that your body can actually store MORE FAT at rest from the same amount of calories consumed! What does that mean? Let's look at a simple example to put into context...

If you "lost" 5 lbs on the scale in 1 week, you are going to feel great because the scale went down 5 lbs... but let's say that those 5 lbs came from muscle tissue being burned up because you just dramatically cut calories and worked out intensely 6 days a week.

Your body will be missing 5 lbs of calorie demanding muscle tissue. This means that you burn less calories when you are at rest than you did before you started, leaving you storing more body fat from equal amount of calories you eat while you are inactive.

On the other hand, let's say in 1 week you lost 2 lbs of body fat and gained 2 lb of muscle because you knew how to workout and eat with a different mindset and focus...

If you stepped on the scale and saw that your TOTAL BODY WEIGHT had not changed any, you might be foolish and get frustrated or feel like you aren't making progress.

However, if you were focused on eliminating body fat and developing lean muscle, you would realize that not only did you knock out some body fat, but you are going to BURN MORE CALORIES at rest because you were recruiting more muscle that requires more ENERGY at rest.

This is a key strategic mindset that I have seen propel people forward and empower themselves to maintain their efforts WHEN THEY FOLLOW IT... and I have seen people fall apart and give up on their effort when they don't make this KEY DISTINCTION and shift in their mindset.

Preserving healthy muscles while ELIMINATING BODY FAT can be a lot easier than most people think. But it does take the right amount of effort with the proper strategy... but if you have the wrong mindset and the wrong focus, you will choose the wrong strategy and feel disempowered when your not living up to the superficial measurement of your total body weight.

Stay focused on the right way of thinking about how you care for your body and make sure you have the right focus and goal so you are able to keep moving forward!
